The American Doll Store- Dallas

My Texas granddaughters all have American girl dolls, some of the more than one. Today Andrew, Leigh, Rick and I met up with James, Ruth and her family at the American doll store at the Galleria in Dallas. It was great fun for the girls.

Lainey’s doll name Laney had a real problem with her hair. It was matted and tangled so she took her to the salon on the second floor. Twenty dollars and 30 minutes later she looked beautiful.

Havana got to choose her first doll. She has had a bitty baby for awhile. She chose Ivy, a cute doll with Chinese heritage.

Rick and Andrew waited patiently.

Ruth and Holli had a good time, too.

Azabu Juban Festival

Matsuri Banner

This morning on my bike ride I noticed the festival banners lining the streets of Azabu Juban. I realized that while we were traveling this month we once again missed the Azabu Juban Matsuri (festival). I do love this banner, though. Maybe we’ll be here next year.

Koz Cafe

Our friends, the Basnayaka’s, invited us to have dinner with them at their restaurant in Shibuya, The Koz Cafe. Thilak is the chef. He was formerly the Executive Chef at the Danish Embassy in Tokyo and Saudi Arabia. The food is Scandinavian with hints of his native Sri Lankan cuisine. In addition to the restaurant he has a catering business.

The food was amazing! We started with a chilled carrot and red pepper soup. Followed by a shrimp cocktail with the unusual additional of watermelon, it was delicious. The next course was a wonderful salad of mixed greens. This was followed by a spicy Sri Lankan chicken curry topped with a rice ball and a coconut topping, so good. The next plate included slices of delicious meat on a fruity red sauce accompanied by roasted potatoes and  flavorful spinach. Dessert was a tart/cake topped with crunchy chocolate sauce.

It was a fabulous meal with our wonderful friends, Thilak, Chandrani, Prasad and Mayumi. If you are ever in Shibuya drop in for lunch or dinner. They are located at 1-16-11 Tomigaya, Shibuya-ku.

Travel day

Today we were up early and on our way to the airport. We’re headed to Utah for Alex and Stacey’s graduation tomorrow and Friday. After a doctor’s appointment and some errands we met our friends Don and Joy Rich at Applebee’s. It was so great seeing them. Then we went to dinner at the Sego Lily on Main Street in Bountiful with my sister Susan.

Susan

Today is also Holli’s first birthday. I wish I could be with her. Happy Birthday Holli.

On the road…

Today we drove to San Marcos, TX. The big event for today was the outlet mall. I have never seen an outlet mall like this one. There are two actually but we only went to one. It has outlets for Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Kate Spade, Coach, Gap, Juicy Couture, Brighton, Crate and Barrel…..to infinity! It’s a good thing I don’t live in Texas. We met up with some of our Carruth cousins at the hotel and headed to the mall. James kept his children as well as two of Emily’s girls. He is an amazing dad! After hanging out with the kids for awhile Laura and I decided to go off on our own. We were mostly looking, but we each ended up buying something in Kate Spade. She got some darling earrings and I got this great wallet in my favorite color. It was 50% off the already discounted outlet price, making it less expensive than the one I bought in Singapore and used for 5 years.

Chair socks???????????????

I am constantly amazed at the products the Japanese come up with. Yesterday Michelle and I went to the BIG 100 yen store in Funabashi. I often see things there that make me laugh. Michelle was looking for some of the felt pads to put on the legs of your furniture so it won’t scratch the floor. They had the felt pads, but we found something we just couldn’t resist…CHAIR SOCKS! They are little socks you put on the legs of your chairs so they don’t scrape across the floor.

They look like little Mary Janes and remind me of the cute baby socks from Trumpette only for chairs. I bought them because they are so funny and really don’t intend to put them on my chairs. In fact, they wouldn’t even fit on my chairs.
