Leaving

Although we had planned to stay in Tokyo until we leave for the Christmas holidays, we are leaving again today. Our great niece, Presley, said that if she could have anyone in the whole world baptize her it would be Rick.  So we are making a quick trip to Utah from her baptism. So today we board a flight on our favorite airline. We are so excited!!!

Looking up

Today I rode my bike out past Meguro to see if I know how to get to the stake center by car later today.  I know how to get there on the train, but I don’t pay attention when I am riding in a car. My friend is driving us to leadership this afternoon and she has never driven there. I even took photos of landmarks, remember that the landmarks are how we get places here. Well…I do anyway, since I don’t have a car and I don’t have GPS for my bike. After I finished shooting the landmark photos I relaxed because the ride home was easy. As I came to the top of a small hill I looked up and saw this.

I thought it was a bit odd to see this bust in the window. He appears to be taking in the world around him. I am not sure who he is.  He looks like Caesar to me. Do you know who he is?

#11, #2

Mark Peyton Carruth was born November 11. He weighs 9.14 pounds and he has hair!!!! He is our 11th grandchild and the the 2nd grandson. We are so excited to have him in our family and we are so grateful everything went so well. I borrowed the photo from James and Ruth.

The Worth of a Soul

“Remember the worth of  souls is great in the sight of God.”                                                                                                                                                                                               Doctrine and Covenants 18:10

A couple of years ago I was drawn into the Repartee Gallery in Bountiful, Utah.  I was letting my mom have a nap before I went back to spend more time with her.  I scanned the shop and was instantly drawn to a Liz Lemon Swindle painting of Christ holding a young African boy.  As I read the story of the painting , my eyes filled with tears. You see, Liz Lemon Swindle had been to Zambia. I was so touched because Zambia is where my baby served most of his mission and there is something deep in my soul that tells me that we might serve in Africa, too. That day I wanted to buy a large framed print for Alex. I settled for a matted 5″X7″ and found a frame at Target. For me, I purchased a small card with the print on one side and the story on the other. It has had a permanent place in my scriptures ever since. Each time I looked at it I longed for a larger one for my home.

In May, I decided I that I couldn’t wait any longer. I ordered a print and finally took it to be framed. I got it back today and it is gorgeous. Now, I just have to decide where to hang it. I want to be able to see it often.

P.S. Alex, are you jealous?

It’s beginning…

As you can see from these photos it doesn’t quite look like fall in most of my park.

This will be red, yellow and orange in just a few weeks.

As you can see, some parts of the park are already beginning to change. More autumn in Tokyo to come. Wait until you see the gingko trees on Gaien Nishi Dori (dori=street).

Whew!

Today I saw something in Shirogane that is true to the season. Local neighborhoods often put up artificial flowers for each season. I have seen cherry blossoms, bamboo and wisteria in addition to the autumn leaves I saw today. Hooray for still celebrating Autumn!
